“A Great Storm Approaches” Part 2

This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: "Look! Disaster (evil, calamity, troubles) will fall
upon nation after nation!
A great whirlwind of fury is rising from the most distant corners of the
earth!
" (Jer 25:32 New Living Translation)

And upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s
hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming
upon the
earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken
.” (Luke 21:25, 26)

“The sea and the waves of the troubled masses of humanity are already beginning to heave, toss and
foam. The increasing
winds of strife (wars, revolutions, rebellions, and demand for change) are driving
the great sea of mankind into a frenzied state of revolt against the present social order.”
Q841:4

Throughout the scriptures the “earth” generally typifies society, governments, firmly grounded, whereas
the “
sea” on the other hand represents the restless masses of mankind restrained only by the bounds or
limitations placed upon them by the shores of the earth (governments), however there is presently an
underlying current of rushing
waters (nations, peoples) boiling just beneath the surface of the earth’s
crust ready to burst forth at anytime, they are simply buying their time waiting for the opportune
moment, for some spark or catalyst which will ignite them to full fury and cause them to break forth
.

Woe to the multitudes of many people, which make a noise like the voice of the seas; and to the
rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters! The nations shall rush
like the rushing of many waters; but God shall rebuke them
.”—Isaiah 17:12, 13

Nevertheless as we see the storm coming, let us remember the words of the Prophet, "We will not fear
though the
earth (society) be removed, and though the mountains (kingdoms) be carried into the
midst of the
sea (the anarchy of the restless masses)." --Psa 46:2

Now in respects to our opening text in regards to, the “armies” “which are in heaven” (the actual
heavens beyond the Vail, and the symbolic heavens this side of the Vail, these armies
) must not be
confused with what sometimes is called “
the Lord’s Great Army.” The former is a spiritual company (Rev
7:5-8; 17:14; 19:14
); whether its soldiers are on this or the other side of the “Vail,” (Psa 149:5-9;
Rev 19:14;
See also R5451:4) the latter is a heterogeneous mass of malcontents—socialists,
communists, anarchists, etc., who unknowingly will be instrumental in the destruction of the old order, so
that the new may be established in its place.

It is evidently NOT the saints who are to constitute the Lord’s great army”, referred to by the
prophets, for the overthrow of the kingdoms of this world, nor are the weapons of their warfare sufficient
to this end. Their weapons are indeed mighty, as the Apostle says,
among those who are influenced
by them
. Among the true people of God, who diligently apply their hearts unto instruction, his Word is
sharper than any two-edged sword, truly `
casting down imaginations (human reasoning’s) and every
high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ
’ (2 Cor 10:4, 5); but not so do the weapons of this warfare
operate upon the world
(this is due to the fact that the world has no fear, no reverence for the Word
of God, His word carries very little weight with them, to them the Bible is just a book of fables, the
beliefs of fools.
)

The army of the saints is, however, not a `great army, but rather a `little flock,as our Lord
himself designated it
. (Compare Luke 12:32; Joel 2:11)” D543

Who then are with the King of Kings in this conflict? Those closes to him, his `regular army’ are
few—a little flock. Among these his followers, all faithful and true, are not many great, or rich, or mighty,
according to the course of this world; but they are all rich in faith—chosen and faithful. (
Rev 17:14) But
the new and rightful King has an immense army of `
irregulars’ in every kind of uniform (except the white
of the `
regulars’).

They are known by many names, Capitalist, Communists, Infidels, Socialists, Anarchists, Nihilists,
Conservatives, Liberals, Progressives, Religionist, Catholics, Protestants and etc.; all of these fight
in the battle of the great day, though ignorant of him whose kingdom they
are helping to establish. These
are the vultures of
Rev 19:17, 18, 21, (most of whom are simply guided by selfish interest) who battle
for plunder and get their fill in the overturning of earth’s kingdoms; because the time is come for Messiah
to take the dominion of earth and to overthrow the oppressors and corrupters of the earth (
Rev 19:15;
11:17, 18
) preparatory to the establishment of everlasting peace upon the only firm foundation of
righteousness and truth.” (
R817:3)

The details of events which are to end this age are amply provided throughout the scriptures however
they are rather disjointed, spoken a little here and a little there (as is the Lord’s usual custom in order to
hide the truth from the worldly wise), therefore they require some effort on our part to locate and
organize, the exact sequence of events nevertheless still being a little confusing, however in aid to our
query
the LORD has provided an outline, a somewhat broad scope view of the sequence of
events as they shall unfold, this is found in
1 Kings 19:11 and 12, here the Lord in vision
revealed to Elijah
four specific events which would precede the establishment of the kingdom
viz
.,

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD
passed by, and
a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces
before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind
an earthquake, but the
LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake
a fire, but the LORD was not in the
fire; and after the fire
a still small voice.”

What do these four events entail?

Let’s see what the Pastor had to say in these regards.

"
The four exhibitions of the Lord given to Elijah, represent, we believe, four manifestations in
which the Lord is about to reveal himself to mankind--the first three of which will prepare men
for the final one in which will come the desired blessing, to all the families of the earth
.

(1) The mighty winds rending the very rocks. Blowing winds seem to be used in Scripture as a
symbol for wars. And
Revelation (7:1-3) teaches us that the wars, whose dark clouds have threatened
the civilized world so ominously for the past, have been miraculously hindered to give opportunity for
"sealing" of the Lord's consecrated people in their foreheads (intellectually
speaking) with the present
truth. We are therefore to expect that when these winds of war shall be let loose, it will mean a cataclysm
of warfare which shall divide kingdoms (mountains,
nations)—prefigured by the mighty wind shown to
Elijah, which
rent the rock (destroyed or weaken nations, NOTE: it is important to keep in mind the fact
that the Pastor made these statements in the summer of 1898, long before the winds began to blow
).
But God's Kingdom will not follow the epoch of war: the world will not thus be made ready for
the reign of Immanuel.
No, a further lesson will be needed and will be given. It is represented in

(2) An earthquake. Throughout the Scriptures an earthquake seems always to represent revolution, and
it is not unreasonable to expect that an era of general warfare would so arouse the lower classes of
Europe (
as well as the rest of the world) and so discontent them with their lot (and especially with the
conditions which would follow such
wars) that revolution would be the next thing in order. One such
revolution occurred shortly following the first Great War, (believed by many to have been the First
Plague), and that was
the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 (the Second Plague), however we believe the
Lord’s thought here encompasses a far greater and worldwide revolution to come, “
a great
earthquake
”, a revolution unprecedented larger than any preceding it. If so, the earthquake made
known to God's people is the one referred to in
Rev 16:18. But severe though all these revolutionary
experiences including this last will be to the world they are not sufficient enough to prepare men
to hear the voice of God.
It will require still another exhibition or event to prepare men,

(3) Fire from heaven;--an epoch of divine judgments and chastisements upon a maddened but
unconverted world wild in anarchy, as other Scriptures show us.
The results of their wars and
revolutions and anarchy--the failure of their schemes
(attempts at various forms of self
government
) and the lessons of divine judgments (the troubles befalling them) will however, have
an exhausting and humbling effect and prepare mankind for God's revelation of himself in

(4)
The still small voice. Yes, he who spoke to the winds and waves of the Sea of Galilee will, in due
time, "
Speak peace to the peoples." He will speak with authority, commanding the observance of his
long neglected law of Love. "
And it shall come to pass that whosoever will not hear that Prophet
shall be cut off from among his people
."--Acts 3:23.

Mark the harmony of
Psalm 46 with these thoughts drawn from Elijah's lesson. After portraying in symbol
the dashing of the kingdoms of this world, the shaking of society by revolution and the figurative melting
of society under the fire of God's judgments, and after every hope of man in his own power is gone, the
still small voice is heard, commanding,--"
Be still and know that I am God! I will be exalted among
the people; I will be exalted in the earth
." Verse 10

The difficulty with mankind is, in great part, their ignorance of God. And they fail to know him, partly at
least because of their high opinion of their own wisdom and ability to get along without God. They will
soon learn to the contrary and will then be willing to hearken to divine wisdom, and say, "
Come, let us go
up to the mountain [kingdom] of the Lord's house. He shall teach us of his ways and we will
walk in his paths
." (Isa 2:3; Micah 4:2)

"
All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth." (Psa 25:10)

The lesson to the Lord's people from these symbols is, that God has the power by which eventually he will
"
subdue all things unto himself," and bring order out of present confusion. We are to "wait patiently
for him
," and labor on diligently and fervently to the extent of our opportunities and abilities and to
"
hope to the end for the grace that shall be brought unto us at the revelation of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ
" for "in due season we shall reap if we faint not."--Gal 6:9.” (R 2334)

Now the question is not, have any of these events taken place yet, but rather which and where presently
are we in this sequence of events?
